I hate the tradition of naming someone after there dad… the child is going to be its own person not a junior dad….. but I also hate the name Toby reminds me of a dog…. but its what you like Pamela L
Why not just use both names????…..Toby Jamison or Jamison Toby. This baby’s name needs to be a compromise between you and the daddy. I think that these combinations are the best uses of both names. andreapie
Jamison’s is a delicious Irish Whiskey (maybe with a different spelling, though.) If you want your son to like Irish whiskey name him Jamison. Honestly, I think I like it better than Toby. kindofkitty
To me - Toby sounds a tad girly to be a first name. Why dont you try Jamison Toby. Jamison is a strong first name…and Toby will sounds a little more masculine.
Used to be that the name of the children was dictated by the order in which they were born…same way they tend to name the kids south of the border in Latino countries…To honor your husband by giving his son his name is not a bad thing. My first wife spouted the same crap and we gave him my middle name instead…now he’s 18 and he has asked me why he wasn’t named after me (or any of my 4 boys!!)…so yes he will be his own “person” as chicky above touted. But if you don’t mind your husband’s name don’t let the fact tat he all ready has it keep you from using it. Your son will always have that attachment to his daddy when he gets his name too!! Aghhh..”naming after the father situation” LOL….
I presonally *like the rest above* Like the name Toby Jamison..that’s really cute!! Good luck to you! **Lissa**
idf you are both so gun whole on the 2 names i agree with the first lady, toby jamison. i only know girls who are named toby. i personally like jamison, sorry. i hate my son’s name but that is what daddy wanted to name him so we did. it’s a guy hting it makes them feel more powerful or somthing i guess, try finding a nickname for him, that’s what we did. hope this helped, holly Holly D
I vote for Toby.
Jamison could be shortened to Jamie by littler kids, and if your child is picked on when he’s in elementary school for having a “Girl’s” name, he could have a few problems with his self-esteem.
I understand where the father is coming from, because my father always wanted a boy to be named after him. (He had two girls) So now, he’s wanting BOTH of us to name our kids after him. We decided that if our husbands agree, we’ll use our father’s name as our children’s middle name.
Toby Jamison sounds fine to me. setsunakino
personally i’d definatley go for Jamison. It shortens really nicely too. I don’t like Toby, i think it is a little girlyish. I absolutely love Jamison and was going to call my baby that but ended up with Finley River as my b/f loved it so much! Jamison all the way! Ceri P

I would go with Toby Jamison. Most people DO NOT like being Juniors when they get older. This can also cause confusion with bills, etc…
I think it is a lot better tradition to use the Father’s first name as the son’s middle name.
However, this is something you need to work out with the baby’s father. You need to come up with a compromise. SNK
